Gold plating versus Silver plating for electrical contacts?
I have always had it in my head that gold plated contacts were preferred.
I noticed today that the resistivity is as follows:
Silver 1.5x10-8
Gold 2.4x10-8
Is there another property that makes gold preferable to silver for use in electrical…

Is Beryllium Oxide still used in the industry?
Long ago it was used as a heat sink compound in (among other things) power transistors. It was very good at it's job. Unfortunately, it is horribly toxic. Is it still used anywhere an EE might come across it unaware?

Is there a material that conducts heat well and has a very high melting point, but is also an insulator?
A lot of insulating materials are also non-metallic, which typically don't have a high specific heat. However, I am interested in experimenting with insulators that conduct heat as well as metal, but impede currents just as effectively as typical…

What is it; what is it called like? And what is it's purpose?

700 °C insulating material used for a spacer
I have a problem with finding a material that does not self ignite below 700 °C.
It is supposed to serve as a 5 mm spacer that is also serving as a best thermal insulation as possible. The spacer must be non-conductive to electrical current. Because…
